A childcare agency is seeking a full-time Support Worker for a lovely child named Megan who has complex care needs. The role includes providing 1:1 support, assisting with daily routines, and collaborating with a multidisciplinary team. Candidates should have experience in complex care and be confident drivers. This position involves ongoing training and support within a positive environment, making it a rewarding opportunity for the right individual.
Client/child: Megan aged 6, loves watching the children’s series Bing, listening to music, swimming, sensory play and playing with her younger brother. Megan has cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and a PEG in situ for all her nutrition, fluid, and medication. She is non-verbal and has recently started exploring Grid Player to support her communication and help make choices. Megan’s home is fully adapted to meet all her needs, and she has a care team in place providing around-the-clock support. She is a full-time wheelchair user. Megan’s team leader is going on maternity leave in February 2024, and we are looking for a Support Worker with experience in complex care to join the team which will include a full hand-over and transition period starting in the New Year. This is a full time permanent position offering 5 days per week for 1 year and then reducing to 4 days per week thereafter.
Megan attends school, so during term‑time she requires support in the mornings and afternoon. In the morning the Support Worker will complete a handover with the waking night carer and help Megan get ready for school and complete the school run. Afterwards, they will return to the family home to prepare for the afternoon, including tidying Megan’s bedroom and bathroom, organising her therapy room, and updating daily logs via Log My Care.
The afternoon activities will depend on Megan’s schedule, and the Support Worker is encouraged to bring new ideas and research activities that Megan can participate in and enjoy. The Support Worker will work alongside Megan’s MDT therapy team and implement her programmes with guidance.
Megan is reliant on others to meet all her care needs, so the Support Worker must be confident supporting in all areas of ADLs, including personal care. It is important that Megan is continuously monitored for choking risk, seizures and/or illness. During school holidays the hours are to be adjusted accordingly.
An outgoing, personable, bubbly, organised and positive Support Worker confident in providing 1:1 support and working within a family setting. It is essential that you are a confident driver, a non-smoker/vaper.
Megan is a pleasure to work with and support, her care team and case management team are fantastic, and her family is extremely supportive. You will receive bespoke training and have ongoing supervision, along with the opportunity to learn new skills.
