Job summary

A leading healthcare provider in Chesterfield is seeking a Skilled Tradesperson (Mechanical) to join their estates team. The ideal candidate will have a background in heating and/or plumbing, experience in maintenance roles, and strong team working skills. Responsibilities include providing maintenance services, supporting workshops, and participating in an on-call rota. The role offers a salary between £25,674 to £32,503 (pro rata), generous pension, and up to 33 days of annual leave.

Skilled Tradesperson (Mechanical)

The closing date is 18 January 2026

We are looking for a Skilled Tradesperson with a background in heating and/or plumbing to join the Derbyshire Support and Facilities Services Ltd estates team to work within our mechanical team in the estates workshop. The workshop provides a maintenance service to Chesterfield Royal Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and external clients. You will need to demonstrate strong team working skills; have good experience of working in a maintenance role and be comfortable in working to targets and working on your own.

The post-holder will be required to work on the tradesperson on-call rota for which additional payments will be made on top of the stated salary.

The post-holder will be required to support the building and electrical workshops as required and within the capabilities of their skills.

Nest Pension with up to 8% employer contributions making it one of the most generous private sector pensions.

Up to 33 days annual leave per year (plus bank holidays).

Person Specification
Qualifications & Training
  • NVQ3 in a Plumbing/Heating (or equivalent experience).
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Significant post qualification training in plumbing, heating, ventilation or medical gas.
Experience
  • Able to demonstrate significant experience in working with commercial heating, plumbing and ventilation systems, both in terms of maintenance and installation work.
  • Experience of working as part of a team, supervising personnel when required.
  • Experience of using Computer Aided Facilities Management software to manage and complete jobs.
  • Experience working as a Medical Gas, Ventilation or Water Competent Person.Significant heating and or plumbing experience
Skills & Knowledge
  • Able to utilise trade background to quickly learn new skills.Able to source information to understand how to correctly install materials and carry out installation work.
  • Knowledgeable with regards to the statutory requirements that apply to installation work and able to find relevant information in documents when required.
  • Able to use hand and power tools to produce work to an excellent standard.
  • Able to read and understand engineering drawings within area of expertise.
