Site Engineer West Ham, East London Salary: £35,000 £45,000 Start Date: 04/08/2025 Full-Time, Permanent (45 hrs/week)

A long-established UK civil engineering and infrastructure contractor delivering major works across water, transport, energy and the built environment seeks a Site Engineer to support regional projects. The business is known for its direct-delivery approach, technical capability and strong investment in employee development.

Role Overview

The Site Engineer will provide engineering support across multiple projects, ensuring accurate setting out, survey control, quality compliance and safe delivery. Initial focus will be on the Manor Road NOS7 and NOS8 remediation packages for Thames Water, involving repair of bridge structures and trunk sewer barrels across rail and road spans. As these works are in design phase, the role offers involvement from concept through delivery, helping develop innovative solutions and gaining exposure to cost, programme and contract management. The position works closely with Site Agents, Sub Agents and engineers, contributing to HSQE documentation and supporting safe, timely, commercially aware project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

Promote safe working practices and comply with all legal, procedural and environmental requirements; support delivery of works safely and to required standards; apply best practice and ensure defect‑free delivery while identifying value‑engineering opportunities; establish survey control, set out works to design drawings and conduct regular checks; maintain accurate records including diaries, allocation sheets, registers and photographic evidence; assist in developing project plans, RAMS, ITPs and quality processes; participate in pre‑construction reviews and ensure required permits/consents are in place; support procurement scheduling and short‑term planning with the Site Agent; monitor and communicate potential variations or commercial issues; contribute to day‑to‑day site coordination and resource planning.

Accurate and timely setting out; defect‑free handover; accurate records and weekly diaries.

Key Relationships

Site Agents, Sub Agents, engineering teams, site workforce and client technical representatives.

Essential Requirements

Previous civil engineering setting‑out experience; strong understanding of construction methods, H&S and legislation; proficient with robotic total stations/EDM instruments; Degree/HNC in Civil Engineering; excellent communication skills; self‑driven and results‑oriented.

Desirable

AutoCAD and MS Office skills; temporary works coordination; CSCS; cable avoidance; first aid; NEBOSH/IOSH; SMSTS.
