Job description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Porter to join our team here at Ormskirk Hospital.

Porters at Ormskirk Hospital perform a variety of essential duties:

Responsibilities
  • Patient and Equipment Transportation: Moving patients in beds and chairs, as well as transporting medical equipment and furniture between departments.
  • Logistics and Deliveries: Transferring specimens, pharmacy boxes, and other important items throughout the hospital.
  • Waste Collection: Collecting various types of waste, including potentially hazardous materials.
  • General Support: Providing assistance and direction to patients and visitors.
  • The post holder will assist the Portering team leader providing a customer focused service.
  • The post holder will deliver an efficient and effective portering service to patients, visitors, and all wards / departments.
  • To ensure the patient environment is maintained to a high standard and safe working practices adhere to in all aspects of environmental/ hygiene management.

Operations and Compliance
  • Financial Management: Ensure economic use of all materials and good practice to minimise waste.
  • Quality Management: Maintain and improve all aspects of the service; participate in staff involvement groups for quality.
  • Hygiene Management: Ensure compliance with food safety legal requirements; maintain high personal hygiene standards per infection control guidance.
  • Human Resources Management: Ensure compliance with trust policies; provide guidance to staff; attend training courses and annual refresher sessions as part of your development.
  • Operational Duties: Collect refuse, sweep hospital entrances, maintain a safe environment, respond to fire alarms, issue keys, ensure safe patient movement (including unescorted X-ray/ECG patients), handle confidential patient records, collect/ distribute linen, move furniture and equipment, deliver meals and stores by road vehicles, perform vehicle safety checks, transport bloods/specimens, assist with transfer of bodies where applicable, store keeping, postal delivery/collection, medical gas checking, car parking duties, comply with pharmacy procedures.
