HEALTH CARE ASSISTANT – Band 2 Receptionist

Band 2 – 25 hours per week permanent post

An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic Receptionist to work within our integrated sexual health service.

We are looking for someone who would enjoy working within the field of Sexual Health, Contraception and HIV related care.

Candidates must possess a Level 2 keyboard / computer skills or equivalent administrative qualification and worked in a recognised healthcare setting. Candidates will also have an interest in working with a diverse client group of all ages, genders and nationalities.

Working within a healthcare discipline is essential.

Basic IT skills are essential.

Good English written and communication skills are essential.

Full training and support will be given.

This post is based mainly at 3 High Fishergate, Doncaster. The service will also have 4 part-time community clinics, and has an Outreach Service provision.

Main duties of the job

Signposting patients via the telephone and face-to-face to the most appropriate local services. Referring patients to the nurse triage service and distributing condoms and information to patients.

Reviewing patient results and referring any positive or abnormal results to the relevant clinician for action.

Booking patients in at reception, supporting them to complete paperwork and entering personal information onto the IT systems.

Ensuring that the waiting room and non-clinical spaces are kept tidy and safe from hazards.

Providing administrative support including sending texts to patients, completing appointment cards and following up phone calls with patients who have missed appointments.

Confidence in discussing sexual health concerns or information with patients in an approachable, non-judgemental, sex positive manner.

Ensure the environment is clean, comfortable, safe, and welcoming to patients, relatives, and all health care professionals.

To have an awareness of monitoring and maintaining stock levels of designated items.

Keep all storage areas clean, tidy and in good order e.g., fridge temp checks.

Report any faulty or broken equipment to the Clinic Lead and label appropriately.

Deliver specimens, test requests, notes or any charts as requested.

Complete associated competency booklet – completion time 2 months. Follow up action plan to complete this if required, by initial appraisal at 3 months.

Solutions4Health are delighted to be offering the role of Sexual Healthcare Receptionist in Doncaster. This is a Part-time roleworking 16 hours per week with a salary of £9679.00 per annum.

Role Summary

We are seeking a friendly and open-minded individual to join our sexual health services team. You should be non-judgmental, empathetic, and respectful of patients' diverse lifestyles while maintaining confidentiality. The role requires self-motivation, resilience, and a commitment to ensuring a positive patient experience.

Strong IT skills are essential, as you'll use systems for booking and communication. Based in our Hereford clinic, you may occasionally assist with outreach services across the county. The clinic operates Monday to Friday, with some late evenings and early finishes, covered by a rotating reception team.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

Join our sexual health services team, where you’ll provide high-quality administrative and patient support. Key responsibilities include:

  • Booking and registering patients using IT systems.
  • Managing appointments, patient communication, and referrals.
  • Supporting clinical staff with administrative tasks.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment.
  • Assisting with stock checks and basic housekeeping duties.

You must have excellent IT skills, a non-judgmental attitude, and the ability to discuss sensitive topics respectfully.

The clinic operates Monday to Friday, opening at 9:00 AM, with two late evenings (closing at 7:30 PM) and one early finish at 1:30 PM. You will work on a rota system with two other reception team members to ensure reception and phone lines are covered during operating hours. Occasional outreach duties may also be required.
