Job description

We are seeking to grow our sessional staff at Telford College. We are looking for staff within their chosen field, who are enthusiastic, skilled and want to come and join our team of extremely dedicated colleagues, working in a modern and high-tech learning environment. As a member of the High Needs team you will play a key role in supporting teaching and learning for students with learning difficulties and additional needs. Working closely with the EHCP and Learning Support Coordinator, as well as classroom teachers, you will help create an inclusive and supportive learning environment that enables every student to reach their potential.

Key Responsibilities
  • To undertake work/teaching programmes with individuals or groups of students
  • To assist the Teacher in maintaining a safe and stimulating environment
  • To undertake professional development and training across The College as appropriate
  • To support inclusion/outreach work
  • To complete Learning Support Records to support the EHCP review process
  • To work with a team of people to support students with Individual Learning/Behaviour Programmes
  • To undertake and provide assistance with the personal care needs of students such as toileting, feeding and mobility in accordance with the College policy
  • To supervise meal and break times as required, assisting students with purchase and carrying of food and drink within the College
  • To provide supervision at social times to enable learners to access clubs/activities
  • To supervise students in and out of transport at the beginning and end of the day
  • To support students in relation to learning/additional needs including physical, behavioural, medical, emotional, sensory etc.
Skills And Expertise
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with students and staff at all levels and to establish and maintain good relationships with young people
  • Ability to implement training and carry out tasks independently and follow instructions
  • Excellent ability to make and record observations and provide positive behaviour support to young people who may be disengaged
  • Very good understanding and use of spoken English in order to receive and give instructions and comply with health and safety procedures
  • Experience of and genuine desire to work with children and adults with Special Educational Needs
Qualifications And Training
  • You should have Literacy and Numeracy skills to a good standard, preferably Level 2, or be willing to undertake training to achieve this
  • Hold a relevant vocational qualification at level 2/3
