Are you an experienced Workday Financials design authority with deep public-sector expertise and a strong understanding of transportation and infrastructure finance?

This is a senior, advisory opportunity to support a large-scale US public-sector Workday Financials programme at a critical stage of delivery.

About the role...

This role sits within a complex, mid-implementation Workday Financials programme for a transportation-focused public-sector organisation. You will operate as an independent design authority, reviewing, validating, and constructively challenging solution designs proposed by the system integrator. The focus is on governance, assurance, and risk mitigation rather than hands-on configuration.

You will bring senior-level judgement, public-sector insight, and confidence working with executive stakeholders to ensure financial designs align with regulatory, funding, and audit requirements.

What you’ll be doing:

• Act as the senior design authority for Workday Financials within a public-sector, transportation-focused environment
• Review, assess, and challenge Workday Financials designs proposed by the implementation partner
• Identify compliance, audit, and delivery risks and provide clear, defensible recommendations
• Ensure alignment with federal funding, reimbursement, grants, and state-level regulatory requirements
• Validate solution design across core Workday Financials areas, including core financials, grants and projects, accounting center, record-to-report, procure-to-pay, and contracts-to-cash
• Provide subject-matter expertise across transportation and infrastructure finance, including capital projects and project-based accounting
• Partner with senior finance, programme, and governance stakeholders
• Act as an escalation point for complex financial, regulatory, and compliance issues
• Clearly communicate risks, trade-offs, and options to support informed decision-making

What we’re looking for:

• Extensive experience delivering and advising on Workday Financials within the US public sector
• 10+ years of hands-on Workday Financials experience
• 15+ years of overall ERP experience
• Strong background supporting state or federal government organisations
• Direct experience with transportation, infrastructure, or capital-intensive public-sector agencies
• Proven experience operating in a design authority, assurance, or senior advisory role
• Confidence challenging system integrator designs in complex, multi-stakeholder environments

Nice to have:

• Background with Tier-1 consulting firms supporting large public-sector ERP programmes
• Experience reviewing or assuring SI-led Workday implementations
• Independent consulting or long-term contract advisory experience
