Job Description
TLS Engineer will be the focal point for technical engineering investigation support required by Manufacturing Engineering, Operations, Programs and Supply Chain, customer support and quality. This role directly contributes to customer satisfaction through support of on-time delivery of product and handling customer technical queries.
- No direct reports, but will supervise the work of other engineers and hold technical responsibility for the work of others; accountable for the work of junior staff/contractors assigned to them.
- Financial responsibilities: influence on product profitability and product NRC/RC and DMC competitiveness. No direct budget to manage.
- Review and approve design activities created by themselves and others.
- Coordinate engineering activities including detailed investigations in support of production/in-service products.
- Make technical decisions and act as prime internal/external interface where needed, managing requirements and deliverables.
- Coordinate with UK and US engineering teams to resolve technical issues aligned with technical authority.
- Act as the focal point for engineering to operations and product support within SEP to maintain status and priority information so stakeholders have a clear vision of engineering activities relevant to them.
- Ensure engineering investigation action plans are well structured, managed and substantiated to enable clear and quick program decisions to avoid line stops.
- Accountable for the technical quality of work delivered by themselves and other engineers assigned to them.
- Represent the engineering function at daily production escalation stand-up meetings (module QRQC) to provide proactive engineering support and feedback to minimise line stops.
- Build and maintain good working relationships with key stakeholders and the Engineering function for effective communication.
- Maintain alignment with the Configuration Management team and participate in change management board reviews to ensure in-service product modifications are properly addressed and controlled.
- Provide engineering input to budget forecasting as needed to support accurate forecasting.
- Lead projects to improve reliability and FTPR as required by Pareto analysis.
- Support SQA and SRPM in supplier investigations for design issues.
- Ensure Local Bond MRB is supported and QNs actioned in a timely manner.
- Lead and complete PRs/CRs and permits in a timely manner.
Complementary Description
Performance objectives agreed during annual performance reviews should be satisfactorily completed within the agreed timescales, for example:
- Number of Open Problems should be less than 10
- Number of Permits should be less than 5 with all Permits actioned within 15 days
- Number of QNs open should be less than 10
- Complete at least two improvement activities that increase productivity or reduce cost of product
- Ensure root cause analysis is completed in a timely manner
- Reduce downtime due to technical issues
A Mechanical, Automotive or Aeronautical Engineering degree or equivalent qualification.
- Must be self-sufficient and largely self-motivated.
- Clear written and verbal communication across all staff levels; ability to interact with other engineering teams and external customers.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet program deadlines.
- Extensive design experience, especially with rotating equipment, shafts, bearings, seals, structures, etc.
- Experience with state-of-the-art 3D CAD software.
- Good working knowledge of MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Project).
- Knowledge of electrical machines.
- Understanding of engineering materials and production methods relevant to roles.
- Ability to design with consideration of cost, ease of manufacture and assembly.
- Good time management with proactive prioritisation.
- Ability to plan work efficiently to meet monthly milestone tasks.
- Ability to produce and deliver technical presentations to employees and customers at any level.
Evidence of written English at interview stage is required. This may be demonstrated through a formal English or technical qualification studied in the UK or overseas in English. If not provided, you may be required to complete an online SHL English comprehension test as part of the interview process.
