Job description

Location: Birmingham / 1 Trinity Park, Bi. Position Category: Information Technology. Position Type: Employee Regular.

Role Purpose

We’re looking for a Senior Test Engineer to lead quality engineering across LRQA’s Cyber Digital products. Embedding quality early, automating intelligently, and assuring every release meets the highest standards of reliability and security.

You’ll be responsible for defining and implementing the QA approach across multiple workstreams including the Cyber Portal, SOC automation, Attack Surface Management, and AI-enabled reporting tools. Working as part of a cross‑functional agile team, you’ll ensure that every feature released meets high standards of functionality, reliability, and security.

This is a hands‑on role combining test strategy, leadership, and execution. You’ll work closely with developers, product owners, and architects to build quality into the process – not just test it at the end. You’ll lead manual and exploratory testing while introducing automation where it adds real value. The goal: predictable, secure, and high‑quality delivery across every cyber product we release.

Key Responsibilities
  • Define and implement test strategies for new features and integrations across the Cyber Digital portfolio.
  • Ensure test coverage across functional, integration, regression, performance, and security dimensions.
  • Collaborate closely with developers and product owners to align testing with business requirements and acceptance criteria.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of QA processes, tooling, and automation frameworks.
Testing & Execution
  • Perform manual and exploratory testing across web applications, APIs, and integrations.
  • Support the creation and maintenance of automated test suites (e.g., Cypress, Playwright, or equivalent).
  • Execute end‑to‑end testing for integrated systems, focusing on reliability, security, and user experience.
  • Document, triage, and track defects to resolution; verify fixes and regression test impacted areas.
  • Ensure test data management and environment readiness align with delivery schedules.
Quality Leadership & Collaboration
  • Collaborate with developers and DevOps engineers to integrate automated tests within CI/CD pipelines, promoting test‑driven and behaviour‑driven development approaches.
  • Promote a shift‑left approach to quality – embedding testing early in the development lifecycle.
  • Act as a quality gatekeeper for releases, ensuring production deployments meet agreed acceptance standards.
  • Analyse production incidents and feedback loops to identify preventative measures and improve coverage.
  • Encourage the adoption of performance, accessibility, and security testing practices.
  • Champion the use of metrics and reporting to provide clear visibility on product quality, test coverage, and release readiness.
About You
  • Proven experience as a Senior Test Engineer, QA Lead, or Quality Analyst within complex digital or technology programmes.
  • Expertise in manual testing of web‑based applications and APIs; familiarity with automation tools (e.g., Cypress, Playwright, Selenium).
  • Experience working in agile delivery environments with multi‑disciplinary teams (Scrum or Kanban).
  • Strong understanding of software testing principles, lifecycle management, and defect tracking.
  • Knowledge of secure coding and testing practices, particularly in cloud or API‑driven environments.
  • Experience with CI/CD tools such as Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, or Jenkins.
  • Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills with an eye for edge cases and detail.
  • Excellent communication skills – able to articulate issues clearly and influence others toward quality outcomes.
  • ISTQB Foundation or Advanced certification (or equivalent) desirable.
  • Exposure to cyber, SaaS, or digital assurance domains beneficial.
