Job description

We're looking for a motivated and driven Senior Technician to join our Bioresources Renewable Energy Team. As Assistant Team Manager, you'll play a key role in leading a high-performing team focused on renewable energy generation. The team is responsible for ensuring the most efficient use of biogas produced by the sludge treatment process, which is either upgraded to biomethane via our Gas-to-Grid upgrading plants or used in biogas‑engine driven generators to produce electricity to self‑supply our sites or export electrical power to the national grid. The heat produced by these combined heat & power generators is used in the sewage treatment process. In this role, you'll help optimise operations across the Severn Trent region, contributing to our mission to reduce carbon emissions through biomethane and electricity production. The Renewable Energy Production team is responsible for ensuring the continuous operation of the Severn Trent fleet. You will develop and maintain strong working relationships with internal partners and stakeholders, specifically within the wider Bioresources Team and Wastewater Recycling, supporting the delivery of permit compliance and regulatory drivers. A competency framework is in place to help direct learning, involving levels of foundation, skilled and expert, reflected with pay progression. The foundation‑to‑skilled pathway is mandatory to the role, and skilled‑to‑expert is optional for further development if sought after.

Responsibilities
  • Drive Operational Excellence: lead day‑to‑day operations and support the Team Manager in achieving business KPIs, regulatory compliance, and permit conditions. Step in as acting manager when required and help optimise performance across treatment processes and assets.
  • Champion Safety and Compliance: promote a strong health, safety, and wellbeing culture. Conduct assurance checks, manage risk assessments, issue permits for high‑risk work, and support internal and external audits to ensure full regulatory and company compliance.
  • Lead and Develop Teams: mentor and coach team members, including operators, maintainers, and fellow senior technicians, fostering a positive, high‑performing environment through effective communication, team meetings, and use of the SBF toolkit.
  • Optimise Assets and Resources: collaborate with stakeholders to manage asset health plans, allocate resources for planned tasks, and apply root‑cause analysis (FMEA) to resolve issues. Identify investment opportunities and contribute to the STORM risk portfolio.
  • Support Strategic Delivery: influence capital project outcomes to ensure right‑first‑time delivery. Assist with financial control, manage contractors, and embed commercial awareness in decision‑making.
  • Customer and Stakeholder Engagement: own and resolve customer complaints in line with company values; build strong working relationships across internal teams and external partners to support seamless operations and continuous improvement.
