Job summary

A leading defense contractor in the UK is seeking a Systems Engineer to manage stakeholder requirements and mentor junior engineers. Job description
Responsibilities
  • Stakeholder requirements elicitation, analysis and management to ensure systems engineering artefacts are developed to satisfy stakeholder needs
  • Understand and apply strategies around system development across a typical lifecycle, from requirement elicitation through to qualification, including integration, verification and validation activities
  • Identify system emergent properties, trade-offs, optimisation, risk management and verification activities
  • Liaise with multiple internal and external stakeholders to ensure effective and efficient engagement in support of system realisation
  • Work with multiple Asset Management Service Hubs to tailor and deliver the Systems Engineering capabilities and services as required
  • Utilise Model Based Systems Engineering Tools (eg Enterprise Architect) to capture system definition
  • Own and deliver packages of work autonomously and concurrently manage a small team when required
  • Mentor and support junior Engineers including secondary line management responsibility
  • Experience of V-model or the full product lifecycle
Qualifications
  • Systems Engineering experience and exposure to the ISO 15288 lifecycle
  • Experience of Model based Systems Engineering and Digital Enabling Technologies
  • An awareness of marine/ship systems would be desirable but not compulsory, for example: HVAC, Fuel Systems, Gas Turbine Services, Fresh Water Services, Sea Water Services, Black and Grey Water Systems, Bilge and Sullage Systems, Gas Systems, Intake and Exhaust Systems, Chilled Water Systems, Lub Oil and Hydraulics
  • Be qualified to degree level, or equivalent, in Systems Engineering or a related discipline
  • Be a member of a relevant professional body and be working towards a Chartered Engineer (CEng) level, with an ambition of obtaining professional registration in the future
Company Overview

The Asset Management organisation within BAE Systems Maritime & Land Defence Solutions operates a Service Hub model. Service Hubs are responsible for providing appropriately trained and experienced personnel, standardised toolsets, processes and datasets to support projects.

The Warship Technical Authority Service Hub covers the engineering discipline. We support the Royal Navy’s Type 45 Destroyers, Type 23 Frigates, Queen Elizabeth Class Carriers, Minehunters and Off‑Shore Patrol Vessels in the UK. Additionally, we provide engineering expertise to International Naval Support contracts in the Middle East. We further deliver internal and external engineering consultancy projects with our multi‑discipline engineering hubs, ranging from Systems Engineering, Combat Systems, Power and Propulsion Systems, and Naval Architects. We further explore how we can expand the business through our Future Support team, targeted towards bringing in new customers and/or engineering projects.

Compensation and Benefits

Salary: Up to £48,000 depending on skills and experience.
