Job description
Overview

We have an opportunity for an Essex-based Senior Structural Engineer, to join a business that has been established for over three decades. Based near Southend-on-Sea, we are looking for a Structural Engineer who can bring technical expertise, confidence, and autonomy to support a diverse range of projects.

Joining their close-knit team, you’ll have the opportunity to work on everything from small bespoke domestic schemes to large residential developments, industrial builds, and commercial projects. You’ll be part of a collaborative and supportive environment where your expertise is valued, and you’ll play a key role in shaping projects that make a tangible difference to clients and communities.

We’re seeking a Structural Engineer who is confident in working independently and taking responsibility for their projects from concept through to completion. Chartership is highly desirable, but not essential – what matters most is proven experience, strong problem-solving ability, and the drive to deliver creative, practical engineering solutions.

What’s On Offer
  • The chance to work on a varied portfolio of projects, from private homes to large-scale developments.
  • A supportive, collaborative team culture in a well-established practice.
  • Professional development opportunities, including support towards Chartership if required.
  • Flexible working arrangements to support work–life balance.
  • A role where you can genuinely shape your career path and take ownership of your work.
What You Need To Succeed
  • Strong background in structural design and analysis, across a variety of building types and materials.
  • Ability to manage projects independently, from design through to delivery.
  • Good knowledge of UK building regulations and relevant codes of practice.
  • Proficiency with structural design software (e.g. Tekla, Tedds, Robot, MasterSeries).
  • Excellent client-facing skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Confidence in mentoring junior team members and contributing to a positive team culture.
  • A proactive, solution-focused approach to engineering challenges.
  • Chartered with IStructE or ICE (preferred but not essential).
  • MEng or BEng in Civil Engineering (or equivalent).
