Job summary

Job description

Our nursing teams are central to the delivery of excellent care to cancer patients attending the Oxford University Hospital. Our teams deliver a holistic approach to patient care using the latest technologies to support individualised assessments and care planning. You will work closely with other members of the specialist nursing teams, the wider MDT and cancer services, providing a service across care boundaries in liaison with primary and palliative care. You will be part of a wider team of cancer specialist nurses and be supported in your on-going development.

· Employed as a Senior Specialist Nurse, working at an enhanced level of practice or towards advanced practice, completing a master's degree (Level 7) programme or other specialist service training curriculum, in line with their primary professional regulatory body requirements.
· Fulfilling the expectations and capabilities of a Senior Specialist Nurse, will be achieved through workplace-based training and assessments and in clinical practice, with support through clinical supervision in own service/speciality area.
· The Senior Specialist Nurse will be supported in their professional development and wellbeing, working at the level of enhanced practice, or towards advanced practice, through achievement of the academic requirements and evidence of workplace-based capabilities and competence within their service/speciality.
· The Senior Specialist Nurse will be expected to demonstrate and develop proficiency across the four pillars of practice, namely Clinical, Leadership and Management, Education and Research appropriate to their level of practice, and their scope of professional practice.

Senior Specialist Nurse in the Breast Cancer Specialist Nursing Service

• Develop and provide comprehensive clinical care, specialist advice, and support to patients in the breast cancer service.
• Work as an autonomous, specialist practitioner alongside members of the multidisciplinary team in breast cancer service.
• Service specific skills, tasks or procedures required include delivery of holistic needs assessments, basic breast examination, breast surgical wound management, implant inflations, prosthetics advice and seroma drainage [training provided].
• Administer, assess and prescribe medications, within scope of practice for service [if qualified].
• Develop and deliver a high-quality practitioner led clinic in the breast cancer service.
• Role will include line management and/or supervision of Specialist Nurses and supportive staff in the service.
• Be flexible within the breast cancer specialist nursing service to ensure appropriate specialist cover.

Required Qualifications
  • NMC registration
  • Relevant specialist (post basic) academic programme (up to MSc level)
  • Demonstrable evidence of ability to study at Level 7 (either previous Level 6 or level 7 study).
Desirable Criteria
  • MSc in relevant subject to role
  • Leadership Course or Qualification
  • Registered Independent/ Non-medical Prescriber, Significant consolidated experience within speciality
  • Knowledge of cancer treatments
  • Excellent clinical and practical skills
  • Evidence of leadership experience
  • Evidence of excellent communication skills
  • Evidence of MDT working
  • Service improvement / quality improvement experience
  • You must have appropriate UK professional registration.
