Job description

The School Nursing Team deliver health care to children with complex health needs aged 3‑19 attending Sherwood Park School. They are responsible for undertaking health assessments, completing and updating care plans, managing emergency situations and providing training for education staff. The post holder will ensure that high quality nursing care is delivered within Sherwood Park School across two campuses.

The post holder will work collaboratively with other professionals involved in the care of children including Children’s Therapists, Educational Staff, School Nursing and Social Services to support and empower children, young people and their families, improve health and give every child the opportunity to develop their full potential.

Main duties of the job
  • Ensure all practice complies with current NMC guidance, organisational policies, and service specifications.
  • Promote and implement integrated working across health, education, and social care to improve outcomes for children, young people, and families.
  • Act as a specialist practitioner, providing leadership, professional support, and guidance to colleagues.
  • Lead by example, maintaining high standards of professional conduct, information governance, and data security.
  • Delegate appropriately to ensure safe, coordinated, and effective care delivery.
Clinical Responsibilities
  • Deliver and oversee specialist clinical care, including medication administration, gastrostomy feeding, and care for children with tracheostomies.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and regularly review individual care plans, making onward referrals as required.
  • Support the lead clinician for the children’s continence service.
  • Represent the school nursing team in educational and multi‑agency settings, contributing to reviews, safeguarding processes, and child protection meetings.
  • Adhere to infection prevention and control policies and attend safeguarding supervision as required.
Management and Professional Leadership
  • Ensure team compliance with commissioned service delivery and electronic record‑keeping requirements.
