Senior Social Worker - TESS Access Team (TAP)

Birmingham Children's Trust is seeking a dedicated Senior Social Worker to join our specialist TESS Access Team (TAP). This is a unique opportunity to shape the initial response to vulnerable children and young people, offering expert consultation and analysis to ensure appropriate support and timely intervention.

The Role: Expert Consultation and Triage

You will be the vital link at our Referral and Consultation Desk, taking the lead on the triage process for all new referrals. Your expertise will be crucial in providing immediate, high-quality advice and guidance to professionals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Triage and Consultation:Lead the consultation desk, offering expert advice and guidance to support the efficient triage and processing of all new referrals.
  • Case Analysis:Provide additional consultation regarding a child's emotional wellbeing, relationships with primary carers, mental health presentations, and complex needs. Utilise social work and therapeutic practice models to develop comprehensive case analyses.
  • Expert Support:Support the professional and care network with your knowledge and experience, offering consultation on complex issues.
What You Will Bring

We are looking for a practitioner with a deep understanding of the care system and a commitment to therapeutic, trauma-informed practice.

Experience
  • Extensive experience in working with children in care and care leavers, the care system, and in multi-agency settings, providing services for those aged birth to 25 years.
  • Proven ability to support care leavers and those 16+ living independently who have experienced early adversity, attachment, and complex trauma-related difficulties.
  • A strong foundation in understanding and supporting a wide spectrum of concerns, including separation and loss, emotional/behavioural/neurodevelopmental difficulties, mental health issues, and developmental trauma.
  • Knowledge and an understanding of (or a commitment to learn) a variety of emotional wellbeing interventions from fields such as clinical psychology, systemic family therapy, play therapy, and therapeutic social work models (e.g. DDP, CBT, DBT, etc.).
  • Demonstrated experience in providing high-level consultation and support to professional networks.
