Senior Science Technician

Location: Rochdale Sixth Form College, College Road, Rochdale OL12 6HY

Salary: Sixth Form Colleges Support Staff Pay Spine, Scale Points 36 £24,759-£25,558 per annum (Actual salary £21,939-£22,646, term time + 5 days)

Plus RA1 £792 (fixed term) for mentoring a Science Technician Apprentice

Contract: Full-time, permanent (37 hours per week, term time + 5 days). Flexible or part-time working may be available for the right candidate.

Start date: As soon as possible

About the role

This is a key role supporting the delivery of high-quality practical science across A Level Biology, Chemistry and Applied Science at Rochdale Sixth Form College. You will work closely with teaching staff to ensure practical lessons run smoothly, safely and efficiently, enabling students to achieve their full potential.

You will also line manage and mentor a Science Technician Apprentice, supporting their professional development with guidance from the faculty leadership team.

Key responsibilities
  • Coordinate and manage practical resources and laboratory facilities
  • Prepare equipment,ernos and materials for practical lessons and demonstrations
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety requirements, including COSHH and risk assessments
  • Maintain, test, calibrate and repair specialist scientific equipment
  • Manage stock control, ordering and safe storage of chemicals and equipment
  • Provide technical advice and in-class support to teaching staff
  • Construct or modify apparatus where required
  • Line manage and mentor a Science Technician Apprentice, including liaison with training providersnag
