Job description

We are currently seeking to recruit an enthusiastic and motivated individual who will provide a professional, efficient and customer focused service whilst rotating between Dispensary, Homecare, Purchasing and Distribution at Royal Brompton Hospital.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone who would like to progress within pharmacy, as this role provides a good foundation in various vital sectors within pharmacy.

The successful candidate will have good interpersonal skills, with the ability to work to a high standard within the team or on their own initiative.

Responsibilities
  • Rotating through Dispensary, Homecare, Purchasing and Distribution, providing support to Pharmacy at Royal Brompton Hospital.
  • Undertake accurate dispensing of prescriptions for in-patients and outpatients.
  • Interact with other staff and patients both in person and over the telephone and work quickly and accurately under pressure.
  • Respond to telephone and face to face enquiries of a routine nature from patients, their representatives, members of the public, homecare providers and a wide range of staff groups; refer queries to the relevant member of the pharmacy team when necessary.
  • Participate in ward and department topping up and ensure appropriate stock rotation.
  • Process homecare invoices using the Epic homecare module.
  • Filing and saving documents to patient records.
  • Collect data and produce invoices for private patient medication.
  • Assist in the coordination of day-to-day administration in the Pharmacy Homecare Hub and Income Team.
  • Receiving and checking deliveries.
  • Ordering stock from suppliers and processing invoices from suppliers.
  • To participate in Bank Holiday and weekend working as well as late duty on a rotational basis.
Additional sections
  • Dispensary: To carry out reception duties, process prescriptions using Epic, dispense per procedures, handle returned medication, participate in stock checks and stock control, ensure timely dispensing to wards or patients, and manage dispensary disposables and stock replenishment.
  • Homecare: To process costing of external Homecare provider invoices, maintain pharmacy income spreadsheets, and report chargeable medicines costs to the Trust.
  • Distribution: To receive pharmacy orders, assist with stock distribution to wards, top up ward stock and participate in daily stock checks; familiarisation with Omnicell robot and drug cabinets.
  • Purchasing: To ensure adequate medicine supplies, procure pharmaceuticals, manage stock shortages, check orders against contracts, process invoices, and maintain filing and documentation; support department policies and CPD.
  • General: Use Epic Pharmacy Stock Control, Pharmacy data systems, and Microsoft Office; plan workload; maintain filing systems; ensure accurate patient and demographic data; participate in CPD and training; support department procedures and service development.
Research and development

To provide administration support to the homecare team with patient and administration audits for the development of new and revised processes to improve service levels and quality of information.

Other duties

To undertake any other duties commensurate with the grade as requested and to abide by the Trust’s policies and procedures including standing financial instructions and health and safety.
