An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Ultrasound Radiology Department Assistant (Band 3) to join our friendly and professional ultrasound team at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust

This key role supports the smooth, safe and efficient running of the Ultrasound Department across our three locations: Conquest Hospital, Eastbourne District General Hospitaland theBexhill Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC)

Main duties

You'll assist with a variety of ultrasound and interventional examinations, help prepare and maintain clinical areas, and ensure patients feel comfortable and well-informed throughout their visit. You'll also act as a chaperone for both sonographers and Consultant Radiologists across general and Obstetric ultrasound lists and provide reassurance and support to patients during sometimes sensitive or complex scans. Additionally, you will assist in the administrative aspects of the department including preparation of the ultrasound rooms, management of stock, booking of ward patients and performing departmental audit for clinical governance.

This is a hands‑on role where no two days are the same - you'll be part of a supportive, friendly team and well‑established team, developing your clinical skills and making a real difference to patients' experiences within our ultrasound service.

Core operating hours
  • Eastbourne District General Hospital - 0830 til 1630 (30 minute lunch)
  • The Conquest Hospital - 0830 til 1700 (1 hour lunch due to consultant clinics)
  • Bexhill Community Diagnostic Centre - 0900 til 1700 (30 minute lunch)

This is a cross‑site post assisting in all 3 locations with one main base site. Flexible working would be considered

Previous NHS experience within an ultrasound healthcare setting is preferred.

Essential criteria
  • Minimum requirement of relevant NVQ 3 and documented evidence of further training in relevant clinical skills and departmental procedures e.g. I.V. cannulation, patient monitoring skills and aseptic technique. e.g. CHS19
  • Computerised patient record systems, to NVQ3 equivalent
Desirable criteria
  • EDCL or other recognised IT qualification
Experience

  • Significant recent experience as an RDA in a hospital environment
Desirable criteria
  • Recent proven experience in a similar role in NHS.
Skills/Knowledge/Abilities

  • Good communication skills both verbal and non‑verbal

  • Able to work independently
  • Competent and accurate IT skills for both data entry on Radiology Information System and to use other hospital data bases. Ability to use programs such as Excel to produce audit reports and produce spreadsheets for inclusion in audit paperwork
  • Cannulation on a regular basis
