Job description
Overview

We are looking for dedicated, enthusiastic and hard-working Radiographer Mammographers that have the Postgraduate Certificate in Mammography to work in the Breast Unit at City Health Campus, Walsall Manor Hospital and the 5 dedicated screening mobile units used within the community. Trainee posts may be available for the Postgraduate Certificate.

The City breast unit has Hologic - Dimensions units and Walsall breast unit has GE-Pristina digital equipment. We are one of the largest screening programmes in the West Midlands and we have implemented Tomosynthesis in assessment clinics, participate in the National Tomosynthesis trial with Kings College hospital, are the only service in the West Midlands to have a Tomo biopsy unit, and are the first service nationally to introduce the Automated Breast Ultrasound system into the breast symptomatic pathway.

We are looking for qualified Mammographers to join our pro-active team. A Band 5 training post may be offered to a suitable Radiographer.

Responsibilities

The Senior Radiographer - Mammographer will be part of a multidisciplinary team undertaking mammography examinations in both the screening and symptomatic breast referral services, according to NHSBSP and Quality Management System (QMS) Operating Procedures. The post holder will support in the management of the service as directed by the Clinical Superintendent Mammographer over all 7 sites. The post holder will have the potential to progress clinically and at service level within the service.

The Trust is invested in continuing professional development. The service structure includes an additional 2 tiers (Clinical Specialist and Senior Assistant Practitioner) alongside the national 4-tier structure.

Qualifications and experience

  • Essential: Diploma of the College of Radiographers or BSc (Hons) Radiography

  • Desirable: Undertaking clinical study at Masters level or a relevant management course

Experience

  • Essential: Demonstrable experience as a qualified Radiographer
  • Essential: Willingness to undertake Post Graduate study at, or towards, master level
  • Essential: Ability to work independently and to write concise, accurate clinical reports
  • Essential: Evidence of current CPD to HPC standard
  • Essential: Able to undertake audit
  • Desirable: Experience in writing protocols/guidelines and patient care pathways using research-based evidence of best practice
  • Desirable: Experience in research and development
