Job description

The Senior Quality Engineer ensures work complies with customer standards, specifications, and schedules, using quality assurance and control activities to support first-time delivery. Reporting to the Senior Quality Manager, they manage scope packages and Quality Professionals.

Key responsibilities
  1. Develop, maintain, and improve local management systems, providing coaching to enable effective delivery.
  2. Verify that quality requirements are specified and met.
  3. Ensure work, including materials and workmanship, complies with contract documents and assist in resolving on-site issues.
  4. Engage with stakeholders to promote a collaborative approach to quality.
  5. Assess supplier capabilities and translate requirements across disciplines, contributing to project meetings.
  6. Collaborate with teams to prepare and implement quality and inspection plans, coordinating surveillances.
  7. Review and approve relevant documentation, including supply chain submissions.
  8. Define strategies for quality and lifetime records to ensure audit trail compliance.
  9. Promote the Quality Policy and foster a quality-centric culture, emphasizing Right First-Time delivery and safety.
  10. Support nuclear safety education and define QA/QC activities to achieve expected outcomes.
  11. Coach others on quality tools and practices, analyze outputs for conformity, and communicate performance to management.
  12. Oversee the quality management system, ensuring compliance with legislation, standards, and methods.
  13. Lead inspections, audits, and investigations, reporting lessons learned and implementing improvements.
  14. Share best practices and lessons learned to promote continual improvement.
  15. Manage quality deviations and non-conformances, encouraging investigation and learning.
  16. Participate in personal and professional development activities, supporting staff training.
Requirements
  1. Trained Internal or Lead Auditor to ISO 9001 (desirable).
  2. Member or trainee of CQI, working towards Practitioner level.
  3. At least 2 years' management experience, with strong leadership skills.
  4. Operational or project experience in the Nuclear Industry or similar environment.
  5. Background in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Control, and Automation (MEICA) (desirable).
  6. Experience with temporary works.
  7. Ability to meet standards and specifications.
  8. Wide industry knowledge, including materials, trades, methods, and legal requirements.
  9. Effective engagement with all organizational levels, suppliers, and stakeholders.
  10. Security clearance to access site areas (if applicable).
  11. Ability to develop and improve management systems and promote procedural adherence.
  12. Excellent industry techniques knowledge, planning, and time management skills.
  13. Understanding of construction practices and standards.
  14. Flexibility to work on and off-site, based in Cumbria with occasional travel.
