Overview

The Opportunity

Our client is a leading consultancy delivering complex engineering and infrastructure projects across the UK and internationally. As part of their expanding Planning and Controls team, they are seeking an experienced Senior Construction Planner to support the planning and scheduling of both design and construction stages on major engineering and infrastructure programmes. Working across a broad and diverse portfolio of projects, this role provides a unique opportunity to be part of a high-performing centre of excellence, shaping the way planning and controls are delivered across the business. You will work collaboratively with internal teams and external stakeholders to deliver best-in-class scheduling support, reporting, and strategic planning input.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and manage project programmes from first principles, using experience-based data including production rates and quantities.
  • Deliver comprehensive planning and scheduling support across multi-disciplinary design, procurement, and construction phases.
  • Conduct schedule reviews, produce technical reports (e.g., constructability reports, progress reports), and provide clear insights to senior stakeholders.
  • Review and assess contractor programmes (NEC4 and ICME), including advising on programme acceptance and supporting commercial negotiations.
  • Analyse and validate Compensation Event Quotations, including time impact assessments and change control.
  • Provide forward-looking scenario analysis to assess risks, opportunities, and the impact of change on the master schedule.
  • Communicate complex programme constraints and phasing using clear visual tools and reports tailored to leadership and client audiences.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement across planning and controls, working closely with colleagues across various departments.
  • Attend client sites or work from client offices as required (occasional UK travel, with international opportunities available).
Qualifications
  • A solid understanding of modern construction methods and site delivery processes.
  • Strong experience in project planning, schedule management, and progress reporting on large-scale infrastructure or engineering projects.
  • Proven expertise using Primavera P6 and other industry-standard planning tools.
  • Understanding of earned value management, cost/resource loading, and the integration of planning with financial controls.
  • Experience working with NEC4 contracts and assessing time impacts of Compensation Events.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to clearly explain complex programme issues to non-technical audiences.
  • A collaborative, proactive mindset with the confidence to challenge constructively and add value in a high-pressure project environment.
Benefits
  • Competitive salary and bonus structure
  • Private medical insurance
  • Life and accident insurance
  • Income protection cover
  • Flexible working arrangements
  • Ongoing professional development and training
  • Opportunities for international assignments
  • A collaborative culture driven by shared values and high-impact projects
