Senior Project Engineer / Project Manager (Contract)

6 9 Month Contract

Approx £45.00 - £50.00ph

Location: Coventry Onsite, Monday to Friday

Our client is a well‑established engineering business specialising in complex mechanical systems and powder/material handling equipment is seeking an experienced Senior Project Engineer / Project Manager to join their expanding project portfolio. Operating from its own manufacturing, testing and development facilities, the company supplies cutting‑edge equipment to customers worldwide

About the Role

This is a hands‑on senior position with a dynamic split of responsibilities: 60% Project Management / 40% Engineering. You will lead projects from concept to completion while actively contributing to engineering documentation, modelling and development, directly impacting 3D CAD outputs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead full project lifecycle activities under NEC4 contract frameworks.
  • Build and manage detailed project schedules.
  • Prepare, track and control budgets, forecasts and costings.
  • Act as the primary point of contact for clients and stakeholders.
  • Ensure contractual compliance and manage risk/penalty exposure.
  • Coordinate internal teams to maintain project progress.
  • Produce engineering documentation and oversee 3D CAD development (SolidWorks).
  • Provide technical oversight, mentoring and practical support to the team.
Ideal Candidate

We re looking for a strong, practical leader, someone capable of taking full ownership of projects, mentoring others and ensuring high quality delivery across both engineering and project functions.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be a senior all‑rounder with excellent mechanical engineering foundations.
  • Have started their career as a Mechanical Engineer, progressing into Project Engineering/Management.
  • Possess 10+ years engineering experience with strong practical capability.
  • Be highly skilled in SolidWorks 3D modelling, able to drive modelling and layout development.
  • Demonstrate a proactive, detail driven approach and a commitment to delivering successful outcomes.
  • Have experience in material handling, powder processing, mechanical installation or process/manufacturing plant a must.
  • Be capable of both hands‑on engineering work and delegating tasks across a wider team.
  • Exhibit strong commercial and contractual awareness, ideally with NEC4 experience.
  • Work autonomously, lead by example and effectively engage with all contributors and clients involved with in the project.
