Job description
Overview

Carrington West are assisting their local authority client based in Essex in the search for an Interim Senior Planning Policy Officer to join their Town Planning department on an initial 3-month contract.

The council are going through the Regulation 18 stage of the local plan with consultations scheduled for later in the year. Following this stage, Regulation 19 is due to follow shortly after.

Key activities
  • To assist with the preparation of the Local Plan and other planning policy documents dealing with specific areas, topics or Neighbourhoods.
  • Contribute to topic papers, planning briefs and other material required as part of corporate policy development.
  • To contribute to the necessary programme of survey, analysis, and policy generation associated with the preparation of planning policies.
  • To assist with public participation exercises.
  • To contribute to the monitoring of the development of the Borough and Neighbourhoods and prepare related statistics.
  • To give advice on the policy implications of planning applications.
Requirements

To apply for these roles, it is essential that you have worked as a Planning Policy Officer in a local authority planning department or at an equivalent level in a private practice. The successful candidates must have good fundamental and technical knowledge and understanding of all relevant planning legislation and policies. You will need to have excellent communication and negotiation skills as you will be working in a team environment, as well as dealing with other professionals. We are looking for a motivated self-starter with a can-do attitude.

It would be beneficial to hold a Post-graduate degree in planning, regeneration or a related discipline, and have the eligibility for membership of RTPI.

The council are looking for candidates who will be able to hit the ground running and are offering flexible working arrangements.

Salary and Ref

Carrington West Pay Rate - Up to £45 per/hour
