Senior Pharmacy Assistant Technical Officer (Band 3)

Are you an experienced and motivated Pharmacy Assistant looking to take the next step in your career? Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a dedicated Senior Pharmacy Assistant Technical Officer to join our friendly, forward-thinking Pharmacy team. About the Role

As a Senior Pharmacy Assistant Technical Officer, you will play a key leadership role within the ward supply and dispensary services. Working closely with the Technical Services Manager and Chief Pharmacist, you will be responsible for co-ordinating a team of Assistant Technical Officers (ATOs) and Trainee Pharmacy Technicians, ensuring that day-to-day operations run efficiently and to the highest standards.

This role requires someone with strong organisational skills, excellent communication abilities, and a genuine commitment to delivering high-quality patient services. You will take a proactive approach to identifying training needs, developing staff, managing stock systems and improving processes. You will also help expand and develop the service, contributing to audits, project work and writing operational procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, co-ordinate and support ATOs and trainee technicians within the ward supply and dispensary areas.
  • Ensure the delivery of an efficient, accurate and courteous service in line with Trust policies and professional standards.
  • Take responsibility for training, developing and appraising staff to support their ongoing professional growth.
  • Participate in the writing and review of departmental procedures and training manuals.
  • Manage ward and clinic stock reviews, liaising with nursing staff and pharmacy colleagues to ensure effective stock control.
  • Oversee and support daily operational activities, including accurate stock rotation, manual ordering and data entry using Meditech and other IT systems.
  • Maintain accurate documentation and report any deviations from standard procedures.
  • Contribute to internal audits, project work and continuous service development initiatives.
  • Support recruitment processes and participate in weekend, bank holiday and out-of-hours rotas as required.
  • Uphold confidentiality, minimise risk, and ensure compliance with Health & Safety, COSHH, Infection Control and all other relevant legislation and policies.
  • Adapt to service changes, including new equipment, policies or working patterns, with reasonable notice.

  • NVQ Level 2 in Pharmacy Services (or equivalent qualification).
