Job description
Overview

The senior pharmacy post will provide a high pharmacy service for patients receiving nutritional support across University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust, supporting the gastroenterology speciality. Interviews are proposed for 12th December 2025, and secondment will be considered for internal candidates. Successful applicants must obtain approval from their current line manager to accept the offer.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver expert clinical pharmacy leadership, governance support, education and training, and patient‑centred care within gastroenterology and nutritional specialities.
  • Be responsible for all aspects of Medicines Management, including the cost‑effective use of drugs.
  • Support the provision of education to other healthcare professionals in the pharmaceutical aspects of gastroenterology and nutritional specialities.
  • Develop and deliver education and training, including trainee pharmacists and diploma students, and contribute to current and future research and audit projects.
  • Pro‑actively influence safe and cost‑effective medicines use, including new drug and device evaluations, financial reporting, and policy development.
  • Identify areas for quality and cost‑effectiveness improvements and review and develop policies and procedures to ensure safe handling of medications.
  • Undertake risk management, develop audits relating to nutritional products, and develop systems to facilitate the use of patients’ own drugs and one‑stop dispensing where appropriate, aiding patient discharge in collaboration with pharmacy and nursing staff.
  • Take accurate drug histories, query prescriptions and provide prescribers with appropriate information to effect changes when clinically required.
Qualifications & Requirements

Successful applicants will be required to provide an immunisation and vaccination report, be able to practice as an expert practitioner, and work towards becoming an independent non‑medical prescriber. Applicants must meet the minimum criteria for the role and be prepared to undertake pre‑employment checks, including DBS where necessary.
