Overview
Senior Packaging Innovation Specialist ABJ7642, South East c80k Package. This role is urgently required for a global organisation with expertise in design and exploration of a range of packaging materials including rigid plastics and injection moulding. You will lead and manage complex projects from ideation to commercialization, providing technical advice and solutions regarding all packaging.
As a senior packaging innovation specialist you will provide technical advice and solutions regarding all packaging requiring an excellent working knowledge of different packaging substrates such as rigids plastics, printed flexibles, labels, and cartons and its prototyping. You will own packaging specifications and the implementation process for a new and existing product portfolio for the next generation pipeline of packaging for products. Flexibility on location within the South East and hybrid working.
Key Responsibilities
- Rigids Plastics - Lead projects through all stages of injection moulding process implementation.
- Leads development of specifications and acceptance protocols to enable the purchase, production of injection moulds and moulded components.
- Lead pilot and commercial moulds trial and ensure the new project launches on schedule and successfully.
- Manages suppliers to ensure in the design, development and implementation of injection moulds and conversion of components is done in time and to pre-agreed standards.
- Manage complex projects with a range of materials from design concept, prototype, build and commercialization of rigids (plastics, metals), printed flexibles, labels and carton structures.
- Provide technical support and collaborate with other functions of the business in resolving technical issues during design and development.
- Provide technical support to procurement on new and existing packaging sourcing requirements, identifying and actualising opportunities for cost and quality improvement.
- Participate in the development of the Quality Control Plans.
- Attend Material Qualification trials and first off production runs at manufacturing sites / suppliers as required.
Qualifications / Experience
- Degree (BSc/BEng/MChem/MSci/PhD) in Materials, Science, Polymer Science, Materials Engineering, Packaging.
- Experience delivering rigid & flexible plastic packaging innovations.
- Experience developing environmentally sustainable packaging solutions.
- Experience with rapid prototyping of injection moulded containers.
- Experience working within a cross functional and a multi-category packaging team.
- Demonstrated ability to lead complex packaging development projects from concept to market commercialisation.
- Previous work experience in packaging development of Injection Moulding packaging (plastic and metal) and flexible plastic packaging, with experience in developing complex injection moulded packaging.
- Experience using MS Office, CAD software (SolidWorks, etc.) and FEMS software (Moldflow).
- Knowledge of use and properties of common plastic materials, especially polyolefins, and awareness of global sustainability developments in plastics.
- Strong engineering analysis skills including tolerance analysis, DFA, DFM, DFMEA, validation and documentation.
- Familiarity with APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) and with AutoCAD, CAPE, Adobe Illustrator is beneficial.
Salary dependent on experience - over 80k Package - Bonus: 30% | Holiday: 25 days | Pension: 20%
