Overview

Museums Galleries Scotland is seeking a Senior Museum Development Manager to facilitate and support development across the sector in line with Scotland’s Museums and Galleries Strategy. This is a job-share role.

As part of the job-share, you will lead on the health and wellbeing and education priority areas of the Connection strand within the Strategy’s three thematic strands: Connection, Resilience and Workforce.

We are the National Development Body for Scotland’s museums and galleries, supporting a sector of 455 museums and galleries through strategic investment, workforce development, advice and advocacy. We are an inclusive organisation committed to a positive culture for our team.

Responsibilities
  • Facilitate and support development across the sector in line with the Museums and Galleries Strategy.
  • Lead on health and wellbeing and education priority areas of the Connection strand in a job-share arrangement.
  • Develop impactful programmes and initiatives, build strategic relationships, and identify funding opportunities.
  • Engage with museums and galleries across Scotland to understand diverse sector needs and translate them into action.

  • Significant knowledge and understanding of the Scottish museums sector and current issues.
  • Understanding of education in museums and the role in supporting health and wellbeing.
  • Commitment to making Scotland’s museums accessible to all communities.
  • Experience of collaborative working to develop programmes and initiatives; ability to secure funding.
  • Excellent organisational and communication skills; ability to provide collaborative leadership within the Museum Development team and the wider Senior Management team.
Job information
  • Starting salary: £45,812 pro rata (£22,906)
  • Part-time Job Share: 17.5 hours per week
  • Permanent contract
  • Location: Hybrid/Edinburgh
