The role

Day‑to‑day, you’ll be at the heart of projects that keep the Royal Navy operational and ready for the future. You’ll lead on the design, configuration and life‑extension of mechanical handling systems – cranes, lifting equipment and critical assets – ensuring they meet the highest safety and performance standards.

  • Deliver design and configuration solutions for mechanical handling assets
  • Lead multi‑disciplinary projects from concept through to implementation
  • Produce and review engineering drawings, calculations and specifications
  • Provide technical advice during manufacturing, installation and commissioning
  • Manage technical queries and ensure compliance with safety and design standards

This role is full time, 35 hours per week and provides hybrid working arrangements with an expectation of three days in the office/onsite.

Essential experience of the Senior Mechanical Engineer
  • Proven knowledge of the design process and substantiation of systems/components
  • Strong understanding of regulations and standards for mechanical handling equipment
  • Proficiency in hand calculations and FEA
  • Ability to interpret and produce engineering drawings
  • Awareness of cranes, crane safety and associated mechanical handling systems
Qualifications for the Senior Mechanical Engineer
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
Security Clearance

The successful candidate must be a sole UK national who is able to achieve and maintain Naval Nuclear Propulsion Information (NNPPI) security clearance for this role.
