Job summary

A leading recruitment agency is seeking a commercially minded construction lawyer for a fully-remote position. This role is critical in supporting the commercial teams by providing expert advice on various contracts, particularly in the solar and energy sectors. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of construction contract forms and be eager to build a career in-house. Excellent communication skills and attention to detail are essential. Suitable for those with private practice or in-house experience.

Qualifications

  • Keen to pursue a career in-house, candidates from private practice are encouraged.
  • Familiarity with project development and financing, especially in alternative energy.
  • Excellent knowledge of FIDIC, NEC, JCT and bespoke forms of construction contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Draft and negotiate a wide range of commercial contracts.

Job Details

Incredible opportunity for a commercially minded construction lawyer to join this fast-growing business on a fully-remote contract. You will work as part of an established legal function in the UK and be a key member of the business providing support to the commercial teams. A snapshot of the work involved will include:

  • Drafting, reviewing and negotiating a wide range of commercial contracts including, but not limited to: EPC and O&M contracts, option and lease agreements, supply agreements, sub-contractor agreements, purchase agreements and confidentiality agreements
  • Advising (and coordinating external legal counsel) on the development and realization of solar and energy projects, including major equipment purchase contracts, construction contracts, operation and maintenance agreements, real estate matters, interconnection arrangements, power purchase and energy hedging arrangements
  • Supporting the Directors and other team members during the contract stage and taking leadership during negotiations with customer's representatives / lawyers to reach mutually acceptable terms
Suitable candidates for this role will be:
  • Keen to pursue a career in-house, candidates coming directly from private practice would be encouraged to apply; candidates who have secondment or in-house experience will be well suited to this role
  • Solutions minded and keen to support the commercial teams by understanding business strategy and goals
  • Excellent knowledge of construction contract forms including FIDIC, NEC, JCT and bespoke forms of contract
  • Excellent communication skills and attention to detail
  • Familiar with all aspects of project development and financing, preferably gained in the field of alternative energy and distributed power sources, such as solar, energy storage, wind, geothermal, biofuels and hydroelectricity
