Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Learning Disability Nurse to join the Unscheduled Care team at HMP Garth, a Category B prison in Lancashire that accommodates around 800 male inmates.

Job Summary

A Senior Learning Disability Nurse will support the Mental Health Team by providing nursing care to adults with learning disabilities and challenging behaviour within the criminal justice setting. The role is based primarily in the Healthcare Department, with occasional wing work.

Hours & Salary

• Monday – Friday, 8 am – 4 pm (37.5 hours per week)
• Annual salary £43,609 – £49,175, depending on experience

Main Duties

• Respond as directed by the Mental Health Team Manager in the day‑to‑day operational functioning of the Mental Health team.
• Hold responsibility for a caseload and be accountable for all aspects of delivering nursing services for adults with learning disabilities/challenging behaviour in a criminal justice setting.
• Work with adults whose behaviour has led to their contact with the criminal justice system.
• Collaborate with the multi‑disciplinary team to conduct person‑centred behavioural assessments, planning, and coordinate positive non‑aversive behaviour approaches.

Qualifications

• Current NMC registration – Learning Disability Nurse
• Experience working face‑to‑face with patients who have complex mental health conditions
• Experience with psychosocial interventions, group work and awareness of substance misuse
• Sound clinical knowledge and assessment skills, including risk assessment
• Experience in a hospital, community or prison environment (desirable)
