Job description
Overview

As a key member of the EC&I Team, the Senior Instrument Engineer will be responsible for the design, development, installation, management of all instrumentation and systems across the site. Provide technical support to the maintenance technicians. The Senior Instrument Engineer will support the Manufacturing facilities in production. Contribute and deliver capital projects. Ensure regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities
  • The Senior Instrument Engineer will develop and design of advanced instrumentation and control systems for both new and existing processes.
  • Author and review detailed specifications and comprehensive design documentation for complex instrumentation systems.
  • The Senior Instrument Engineer will supervise and coordinate the installation and commissioning of instrumentation and control system, managing installation contractors and ensuring adherence to project timelines.
  • Conduct thorough site inspections and rigorous testing to verify proper installation and optimal functionality of instrumentation systems.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary project teams to seamlessly integrate instrumentation systems into overall plant operations.
  • Develop, implement, and oversee maintenance schedules for instrumentation and control systems, ensuring long-term reliability and performance.
  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and resolve complex issues with instrumentation and control systems, providing expert guidance and support.
  • Lead and actively contribute to HAZOP (Hazard and Operability Study) and LOPA (Layer of Protection Analysis) meetings, ensuring safety and compliance.
  • Maintain meticulous documentation and records in strict accordance with COMAH regulations, ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Ensure all instrumentation and control systems comply with ATEX directives, providing expert oversight and guidance.
  • Select, install, and validate ATEX-certified equipment in hazardous areas, ensuring safety and compliance.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement opportunities for process improvements, driving innovation and efficiency within the instrumentation domain.
  • Oversee functional safety activities, including the development of Safety Requirements Specifications (SRS), arranging Functional Safety Assessments (FSA), and performing verification calculations to ensure compliance with safety standards.

Ensure that all Health, Safety and Environmental requirements are met including (but not limited to) workplace organization, work instructions, risk assessments, COSHH assessments, housekeeping standards in accordance with GLP and GMP. Demonstrable evidence of understanding the importance of creating a safe environment. Working in a safe manner. Follow appropriate and relevant practices and procedures.

Team Building & Incentive

Assist in the generation, data collection and monitoring of key performance indicators (KPIs). Organize and deliver SHE related training modules for staff.

Communication

Verbal and written communication within Engineering Team. Participate in interdepartmental communications.

Follow company policies and procedures to keep confidentiality on sensitive information.

Skills & Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical, Instrumentation & Control Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Functional safety qualifications (desirable).
  • CompEx Ex12 (Desirable).
  • Strong knowledge of COMAH and ATEX regulations and safety standards.
  • Proficiency in instrumentation and control system design, installation, and maintenance.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD for designing and drafting instrumentation and control systems.
  • Experience with batch processing systems (Desirable).
  • Familiarity with PLC, DCS, and SCADA systems particularly Siemens PCS7 (Desirable).
Location & Dates

Location: Seal Sands, Middlesbrough. Salary: £60,000 to £65,000 (dependent on experience). Hours: 40 hours per week, core hours Monday to Friday 9:30am to 3:00pm. Contract: Permanent. Site and Office based. Start Date: ASAP.
