Job Summary

The Senior ICT Technician will manage ICT Support Services across the organisation, overseeing the delivery and maintenance of ICT systems, infrastructure, and applications. This includes supervising technical staff, resolving complex ICT issues, contributing to technical projects, and supporting the implementation of the organisation's ICT strategy.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage ICT Support Services, including hosting, lifecycle management, purchasing, and staff supervision.
  • Provide ICT support to line-of-business applications (first line fix, storage, backup, email, antivirus, application deployment).
  • Oversee ICT infrastructure support (WAN/LAN, Wi-Fi, telephony, internet, servers, devices, patching).
  • Engage with senior management and suppliers on ICT-dependent projects.
  • Lead on ICT programmes of work, reporting progress as required.
  • Develop procedures, standards, and guidance for ICT staff and service desk users.
  • Research and recommend new technologies to improve service delivery.
  • Analyse and resolve complex ICT support/service desk issues.
  • Maintain ICT asset register, systems catalogue, and contracts database.
  • Manage help desk system, ensuring faults are resolved promptly and KPIs are met.
  • Provide end-user support, including advanced fault diagnosis/resolution.
  • Manage vendor relationships for third-party software/services.
  • Plan and oversee ICT site visits for repairs, maintenance, and development projects.
  • Monitor ICT service health and implement contingency and remedial actions.
  • Contribute to the organisation's website and intranet development.
  • Manage team performance, workloads, and resources to ensure efficient service delivery.
Human Resource Responsibilities
  • Supervise, mentor, and appraise ICT staff.
  • Maintain morale and effective working relationships.
  • Delegate responsibilities appropriately while retaining accountability.
  • Participate in staff recruitment, training, and disciplinary procedures as required.
Essential Criteria
  • Qualifications:
    • Degree (or equivalent) in an ICT discipline plus 2 years' experience supporting network-based computer systems and managing staff.
    • OR HND (or equivalent) in an ICT discipline plus 3 years' experience supporting network-based computer systems and managing staff.
  • Experience & Skills:
    • Demonstrable experience managing ICT service delivery and staff.
    • In-depth knowledge of IT operating systems and hardware platforms.
  • Other Requirements:
    • Ability to participate in the ICT on-call rota.
    • Full UK driving licence and access to a car (unless prevented by disability).
Desirable Criteria
  • Experience prioritising workload and working to strict deadlines.
General Requirements
  • Adhere to organisational policies including Equality, Health & Safety, IT Security, and Infection Control.
  • Maintain accurate and secure records in line with FOI, Data Protection, and records management policies.
  • Be available to work 5 out of 7 days (including nights, weekends, public holidays, on-call/standby as required).
  • Undertake continuous professional development.
