Join our Major Projects team as a Senior Estimator initially working within Highways.

Role Purpose

• To support the Managing Estimator to develop estimates from 1st Principles associated across multiple stages of the pricing process including post tender stage pricing.
• Be a senior member of the team developing the price, mentoring, and supporting junior members of the estimating team.
• Stakeholder management to produce the estimate e.g., planning, procurement, sustainability etc.
• Where appropriate working closely with other Balfour Beatty or JV partners, the delivery teams to ensure a unified approach and pricing submission.

What you'll be doing

As a Senior Estimator, you will:

• Undertake estimates in accordance with the companies' policies and procedures;
• Review customer's drawings and specifications to prepare accurate costing sheets for materials, labour and equipment;
• Oversee and/or interrogate design options and 'value' solutions, and if appropriate, identify the attractiveness of a project based on sound estimating principles;
• Mentor and support more junior members of the team;
• Record assumptions and identify risks and opportunities including supporting developing the risk evaluation from a pricing/budgetary point of view;
• Liaise with members of the project team, other BB business units & supply chain to develop and understand methodologies and principles proposed.

Who we're looking for

The successful candidate will have the following qualities and experience:

• Previous experience in estimating of complex multi-faceted Highways and Civil Engineering projects;
• Proficient in the use of Excel and similar software;
• A valid CSCS card;
• Good working knowledge of pricing and quantification methods;
• Experience of leading a team;
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills are required, coupled with an ability to form effective relationships with partners under time pressure.
