Exciting Opportunity for a Senior Engineer - Structures Capital Delivery in South Wales

An excellent opportunity has arisen for a skilled and motivated Senior Engineer - Structures Capital Delivery to join my client's highways infrastructure team in South Wales. This is a permanent, full-time position offering flexible hybrid working based from either Baglan (Neath Port Talbot) or Cardiff, with two days a week required in the office and the remainder worked remotely or on-site.

This is a delivery-focused engineering role supporting the planning, procurement, and management of trunk road and motorway structures projects across the South Wales region. The successful candidate will contribute to the Welsh Government's annual capital works programme, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently, safely, and in line with quality expectations.

The main duties of the Senior Engineer - Structures Capital Delivery are:
  • Supporting the Principal Engineer in managing the design, procurement, and delivery of highways structures capital schemes.
  • Overseeing service providers during project delivery, ensuring compliance with frameworks, design standards, and safety procedures.
  • Preparing and reviewing task orders, monitoring invoicing, and producing accurate financial forecasts.
  • Contributing to performance management processes for suppliers, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring KPIs are met.
  • Coordinating with internal teams and stakeholders to deliver an integrated annual programme of works.
  • Supporting the planning and prioritisation of capital investment to align with strategic network objectives.
  • Ensuring compliance with health, safety, quality, and environmental policies across all areas of responsibility.
  • Producing technical reports and contributing to reviews, business cases, and programme updates.
The Senior Engineer - Structures Capital Delivery will have key experience in:
  • Delivering highways structures or capital works within a civil engineering context.
  • Managing programmes and projects across multiple locations with strong time and budget control.
  • Working with NEC suite contracts and delivering through design and construction frameworks.
  • Knowledge of relevant guidance such as CG300, CS470, CS453, CS461, and CS466.
  • Understanding of asset management, procurement processes, and stakeholder coordination in a public infrastructure environment.
  • Producing technical documentation and presenting information to internal and external audiences.
Essential qualifications and attributes:
  • A degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related construction discipline (or currently working towards).
  • Strong interpersonal, organisational, and reporting skills.
  • A valid UK driving licence and ability to travel across South Wales as required.
  • Self-driven, solutions-focused, and able to work independently.
Desirable:
  • Training or knowledge of health and safety in construction.
  • Experience working within a framework-based delivery model for public infrastructure.
