Job summary

A public sector organization seeks a Senior Engineer - Parking Design to develop and oversee transportation projects. This role involves project management, public consultations, and collaboration with internal teams. The ideal candidate has a strong background in parking design and relevant legislation. The position offers a hybrid working model, with responsibilities split between home and office, primarily located in Newham. Competitive pay is £26.13 an hour PAYE or £34.15 an hour Umbrella.

Qualifications

  • High level of knowledge of relevant legislation and policy frameworks for Kerbside Infrastructure.
  • Experience of undertaking engagement and consultations and report writing.
  • Experience in delivering parking design, Controlled Parking Zones, Waiting and Loading Restrictions.
  • Experience of use of relevant standards and code of practices.

Responsibilities

  • Develop evidence base for proposed schemes and outcomes.
  • Arrange necessary site investigations and data collection.
  • Develop options for scheme outcomes and select preferred options.
  • Project manage works funded by other Council teams and external developers.
  • Monitor and evaluate work of consultants or contractors.
  • Maintain and report on project budgets.
  • Liaise with teams within Environmental Services.
  • Respond to inquiries from the public and prepare reports.
  • Design and implement public consultations.

Client: Local Authority in Newham

Job Title: Senior Engineer - Parking Design

Pay Rate: £26.13 an hour PAYE/ £34.15 an hour UMBRELLA

Hours: 36 Hours a week (Mon-Fri) 9AM-5PM

Duration: Initial 3 month contract

Location: Hybrid working - Site/Office based in Newham 3-4 days a week

Description

The post-holder shall work alongside the Senior Project Manager in the delivery of a range of projects within the Highways & Sustainable Transport team, in an effective and efficient manner to deliver best value and ensure continuous improvement. The post-holder shall work with both internal and external project team members, as well as end‑to‑end management of a range of projects being delivered by the Traffic Management, Road Safety and Parking team from project inception and securing funding through to delivery on site and project close‑out.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
  • To develop an evidence base for proposed schemes in their programme and develop an appropriate set of outcomes to address the issues identified.
  • To arrange all the necessary site investigations data collection and other scheme evidence as appropriate in order to fully inform proposed design work.
  • To develop a range of options as appropriate that will achieve scheme outcomes with a view to the selection of a preferred option.
  • To project manage works funded by other Council teams (such as Schools, Regeneration or Housing) and external developers in relation to planning permissions, in association with other Council teams and departments.
  • To monitor, evaluate and challenge the work and invoices of consultants or contractors working on
  • To maintain, monitor, report, forecast and review the project budgets allocated to the projects in their charge.
  • To liaise with other teams and groups both within Environmental Services and the wider
  • To respond to inquiries from the public and/or Councillors and to prepare
  • To design, manage and implement public consultations and arrange for the dissemination of information to the appropriate stakeholder groups. To record and note comments obtained from the consultations and make alterations as appropriate based on consultation responses.
Experience
