Qualifications

The role

As a Senior Electrical Test Engineer, you’ll have a role that’s out of the ordinary. You’ll be at the heart of commissioning and testing electrical systems on Royal Navy submarines. This is a high-impact role where your expertise will directly contribute to the safety, reliability, and mission-readiness of the UK’s naval fleet. You’ll lead a team of Test Engineers, ensuring that every system meets exacting standards while mentoring others and driving continuous improvement.

Day-to-day you’ll be:

  • Leading, mentoring and motivating a team of Test Engineers
  • Supervising commissioning, testing and calibration of submarine electrical systems
  • Liaising with planning teams to ensure effective scheduling and resourcing
  • Supporting the creation and approval of test documentation and technical reports
  • Applying safety, quality and environmental policies across all commissioning activities

This role is full time, 36 hours per week and is based on site at HMNB Clyde, Faslane. Shift patterns apply and may vary depending on operational requirements. A shift allowance of 35% is included for roles working these patterns.

Essential experience
  • Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills
  • In-depth understanding of commissioning processes
  • Proficient in IT systems including spreadsheets, databases and MS Office

  • Working knowledge of marine electrical systems and equipment
Qualifications
  • Recognised Electrical Engineering Apprenticeship or HNC (or equivalent demonstrable experience in a relevant engineering discipline)
