Job description
Overview

Developing and supporting children's early learning and ensuring there is continuity and high quality.

To fully implement the curriculum policy within the nursery provisions in terms of the image of the child being visual to all decisions, planning, practices and reviews.

To lead and manage the nursery teams, who are responsible for, and assist with planning the learning and teaching environment and keeping records of progress for groups of children.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities
  • To support the school's leadership team in ensuring high quality education and care services are maintained.
  • To contribute to the growth and development of EYE’s and EYP’s knowledge of child development and teaching practices.
  • To contribute to the enhancement of early education and childcare for children 0 to 5 through effective planning, evaluation and assessment of the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum for children's learning in the nursery.
  • In conjunction with the Management team develop and implement weekly and daily plans which ensure the highest quality learning and teaching environment, for your area of responsibility in the nursery provision.
  • To be a named Deputy Designated Safeguarding Lead for the school. To implement policies, and ensure procedures and practice, to safeguard children’s health, safety, inclusion and well-being, are followed by the staff team.
  • To assist with recruiting and selecting, and retention of nursery staff.
  • To assist the SENCO with observations, assessments and school action plans for children with special educational needs.
  • In conjunction with the Deputy Head Teacher ensure professional development plans are in place for all practitioners and a range of training and professional development opportunities are provided with evidence if impact.
  • To provide regular supervision and support staff well-being.
  • To plan and deliver a range of interventions for children, with evidence of impact of learning outcomes.
  • To provide reports and updates to Governors and the leadership team- reviewing the children’s progress and quality of the education.
  • To oversee the assessments, planning and reports process to share with parents and the leadership team.
  • To plan and co-ordinate teaching and learning observations and professional development meetings to coach EYE’s and EYO’s.

Health and Safety
  • To contribute to and implement all nursery policies and procedures, e.g., register and signing out procedures, child protection, accident and incident reporting, health and safety, confidentiality, food safety, setting hygiene etc.
  • To ensure that the welfare and safety of children is promoted within the setting and that any child protection/ safeguarding concerns are always appropriately and immediately acted upon in accordance with the school’s policies and procedures.
  • Maintain the highest level of cleanliness and hygiene in all nursery areas.
  • Take shared responsibility for the care, maintenance and security of all equipment and toys within the nursery.
Continuing Professional Development
  • To keep your knowledge of current working practices and regulations up to date.
  • In conjunction with your line manager, take responsibility for personal professional development, keeping up to date with research, which may lead to improvements in the day-to-day running of the nursery.
  • Undertake any necessary and identified professional development taking full advantage of any relevant training and development available.
  • Maintain a professional portfolio of evidence – evaluating and improving own practice.
Child Protection and Safeguarding
  • To report any cause for concern regarding a child’s health or welfare using the CPOM’s system and report to DDSL.
  • The post holder will have a shared responsibility for the safeguarding of all children. The post holder also has an implicit duty to promote the welfare of all children.
  • Promote and implement safeguarding and child protection procedures.
