Qualifications

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Design Engineer (Process). The role will be based in Raynesway (Derby). These roles will sit in our expanding our major projects and bioresources waste treatment design team. Our Design Team use their technical skills to shape the wastewater strategies for the company, providing expert advice to lead projects from feasibility to detailed design to support the Severn Trent goals. You will work with our stakeholders, consultants and contractors to protect and enhance the quality of our waste treatment assets and rivers; interrogate and make improvements to our data systems; undertake investigations; undertake outline designs so that we have the best evidence available from which we can make sound decisions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Sewage treatment assets - understanding our existing assets, completing risk assessments, undertaking outline designs for new assets to meet new business needs and short-to-long-term complex investigations
  • Developing strategies to allow us to enhance the existing assets and inform the Price Review regulatory submissions; collaborating across the business as we build our river quality, sustainability and net zero carbon plans influencing the business to transition away from traditional investment routes
  • Carry out self‑led research on emerging technologies, to define new innovative treatment options and collaborate both internally and externally to promote new strategies
  • Promoting our ongoing waste treatment capital maintenance programme; ensuring that we have robust evidence‑based understanding of how our waste treatment sites work to ensure final effluent quality is maintained
  • Tactical support and advice to operational teams to maintain the availability and quality of our waste treatment services for our customers
  • Ensure Health and Safety are built into the lifecycle of the design
  • Understand and review potential delivery and operational risks e.g. H&S, environmental, commissioning through the design process
Qualifications

You’ll be degree qualified (desirable) and showing your professional commitment as a member of one of the engineering Institutions or actively working towards incorporated or chartered status, a journey which we are keen to support you on. Having water industry background would be great but not essential, however an engineering discipline would be required.

You will have excellent internal and external stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build relationships with a diverse range of people. You will be a forward‑thinking capable of anticipating challenges and responding to change in a rapidly evolving environment. A full UK driving licence will be required. Of course, it’s important that we attract the right skill sets, and those with the right experience but we value character, positivity and a caring attitude in equal weight.
