Job summary

A leading media organization in Greater London is seeking a Senior Data Privacy Counsel to join their Data Privacy and Protection team. This role involves advising on data privacy legislation relevant to digital products and services, conducting risks assessments, and managing contracts. The successful candidate will ideally be a UK qualified lawyer with experience in the digital media sector. The position offers a hybrid work model, with three days in the office and two days remote.

We are now looking for a Senior Data Privacy Counsel to join the Data Privacy and Protection team and provide advice on data protection data privacy and legal requirements across digital products at the Guardian.

You will work closely with the DPO the data privacy compliance manager the data privacy counsel data privacy analyst and other key stakeholders across the business.

About the Role
  • Applying data privacy legislation to digital products and services
  • Advise on data privacy risks and completing Data Privacy Impact Assessments in relation to proposed processing activities.
  • Provide timely and concise metrics and reports to the DPO and other relevant stakeholders on your activities privacy risks and issues
  • Support the Privacy Team Commercial Legal Team and business with contract negotiations and contract management in relation to data privacy
About You
  • Experience of advising in a digital industry media or publishing sector role
  • Experience leading on data privacy across digital products and adtech
  • UK qualified lawyer of at least 3 years PQE from a data privacy / technology team
  • Strong knowledge of UK and European data protection laws regulations and policies including :
  • Data Protection Act
  • UK General Data Protection Regulation
  • Data Use and Access Act 2025
  • Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations

We operate in a hybrid environment working 3 days a week from our offices in Kings Cross and 2 days a week remotely.
