Project

As part of Bouygues Construction's Public Works division, VSL International participates in the construction of major technical structures and guarantees their structural safety and durability: transport infrastructure (bridges, tunnels), industrial and energy production structures, and commercial buildings.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Project Commercial Lead, you will take full responsibility for the financial and contractual success of your section; from Target Outturn Cost development through to completion and final accounting. This is a rare opportunity to contribute to a landmark national infrastructure project while upholding VSL's high standards in commercial excellence, safety, and innovation.

Main Responsibilities
Commercial Leadership
  • Commercial management of works package
  • Manage cost control, forecasting, risk, opportunity, and financial reporting
  • Manage Change Control
  • Ensure subcontract and supplier agreements are effectively administered in line with VSL and alliance requirements
  • Oversee monthly earned value reporting and commercial performance reviews
Strategic & Team Management
  • Lead, develop, and mentor commercial team members
  • Work closely with project, technical, and procurement teams to ensure alignment on programme and commercial priorities
  • Engage proactively with clients, partners, JV/alliance colleagues, and suppliers to drive collaboration and value
Governance & Risk Management
  • Manage commercial risk and opportunities with timely identification, assessment, and mitigation
  • Administer change management processes in accordance with NEC contracts and alliance governance
  • Promote and embed digital tools to enhance commercial control and reporting
    Candidate Profile
    Education
    • BSc/MSc in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline
    • Chartered status (MRICS, MICES, or MCIOB) preferred
    Technical Skills
    • 15+ years' commercial experience within major civil engineering or infrastructure projects (essential)
    • Strong understanding of NEC forms of contract (essential)
    • Previous experience working within a JV or alliance environment (beneficial)
    • Proven ability to manage cost, contracts, supply chain, and commercial performance on complex project environments
    • Experience in ground engineering/foundations preferred
    • Demonstrated leadership capability and experience mentoring commercial teams
    • Excellent communication, negotiation, and analytical skills
