Senior Commercial Manager

Location: Caerphilly, South Wales

Contract Type: Full-Time, Permanent, Office based, (40 hours per week)

Salary: £70,000 per annum + £4,500 car allowance, and benefits package

As the Senior Commercial Manager, you will report directly into Mears Group Managing Director with a matrix into the branch Operations Director. This role will be to lead the commercial management of the United Welsh / Celtic Horizons asset management contract, ensuring financial performance, value for money, and effective client engagement. Oversee budgeting, cost control, procurement, and reporting, while supporting strategic delivery of contract requirements, acting a key contributor to business innovation and long-term sustainability.

Role Responsibilities
  • Lead end-to-end commercial management of the contract, including budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, and ensuring profitability.
  • Contribute to commercial strategy and business planning, ensuring alignment with client objectives and organisational goals.
  • Support contract negotiation, renewal, and variation processes, ensuring favourable and sustainable commercial terms.
  • Provide strategic input into pricing models, bid submissions, and contract variations to support business growth and competitiveness.
  • Ensure robust governance of financial controls, audit trails, and commercial documentation to maintain compliance and transparency.
  • Lead procurement strategy and negotiations with the supply chain, ensuring value for money and adherence to budgetary authority.
  • Collaborate with operational teams to ensure commercial alignment and effective service delivery.
  • Leverage data analytics and digital tools to enhance financial reporting, forecasting accuracy, and operational insight.
  • Produce regular performance reports on cost, productivity, and customer insight to inform decision-making and client engagement.
  • Identify and implement opportunities for process improvement, cost optimisation, and enhanced value delivery across the contract.
  • Champion a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement across commercial and operational teams.
  • Support the integration of social value and sustainability objectives into commercial decision-making and reporting.
  • Ensure compliance with health & safety plans and maintain accurate records in line with regulatory requirements.
  • Manage employee relations with support from HR, ensuring fair, lawful, and effective practices.
  • Represent the commercial function in client meetings, board reviews, and external audits.
  • Provide operational cover for key roles as needed to maintain continuity and service standards.
Role Criteria
  • Extensive experience in a senior commercial role within asset management, housing, or FM sectors.
  • Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Advanced financial and contract management capabilities, including Excel and financial modelling.
  • Proven ability to manage complex contracts and drive commercial performance.
  • Experience in risk management, procurement, and strategic planning.
  • Full clean UK driving licence.
