Job description
Overview

Senior Clinical Fellow in Paediatric Orthopaedic Surgery at Great Ormond Street Hospital NHS Trust. Fixed term contract of 6 or 12 months (depending on candidate) starting from September 2026.

The aim of these posts is to provide sub-specialty clinical training in all aspects of elective paediatric orthopaedic surgery, in particular for rare disorders and complex procedures. Fellows will gain experience in all major areas of paediatric orthopaedics. Rotations between senior staff will ensure that the appointee will work in a variety of sub-specialist areas. There is some flexibility regarding the roster. The responsibilities include the full pathway of surgical treatment for elective cases, outpatient clinics, audit and research. A typical week includes 2 operating days, 2 clinic days and at least one half day for research.

Responsibilities
  • Assist with the full pathway of surgical treatment for elective paediatric orthopaedic cases; participate in outpatient clinics, audit and research.
  • Work predominantly with one or two consultants and assist with other clinics and theatre lists as appropriate.
  • Discuss timetable and duties with the current post holder and the consultants on appointment; participate in all activities offered within the department, particularly theatre lists when clinic commitments permit.
  • Current rota is non-resident on-call and complies with New Deal and EWTD requirements.
Qualifications and experience
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practice; FRCS (Orth) or equivalent; previous experience in paediatric orthopaedics.
  • Post FRCS Orth (or equivalent) with 6–12 months experience in paediatric orthopaedics.
  • Experience in teaching and presenting; understanding of clinical governance; knowledge of general paediatric orthopaedics.
  • Desirable: clinical experience in related paediatric specialties; published research in peer-reviewed journals.
