A leading health board in Wales is looking for a professional in the Gynaecology Unit to participate in patient care under a full shift system. The role involves managing emergency patients, alongside intrapartum and post-natal care. Candidates must be adaptable, covering various site commitments and on-call duties. This position offers generous leave, a leading pension, and opportunities for career growth, in a supportive and diverse environment.
The work of the Prince Charles Hospital Gynaecology Unit includes general care of patients, admission of emergency patients, and a waiting list for operation. Elective admissions attend a nurse‑led pre‑operative assessment clinic. There are eight operating sessions at Prince Charles Hospital and six Gynaecology Clinics (three at Prince Charles Hospital, 2 at YCC and one at Mountain Ash Hospital).
There are around 2,700 deliveries in the North Cwm Taf area. The work includes intrapartum care, ante‑natal and post‑natal management of patients. The majority of the patients are booked cases but all emergencies in the area are admitted. There are six consultant ante‑natal clinics—two at YCC Hospital and four at Prince Charles Hospital— including the clinic for women with medical complications in pregnancy. The department of Obstetrics & Gynecology aims to provide a complete programme of care to both emergency and elective patients, with triage and redirection of those patients more properly treated elsewhere.
The post holder will be required to participate in a 1:11 Full Shift System which includes one week of nights per 11‑week cycle with built‑in prospective cover. On‑call duties take place at Prince Charles Hospital only. Duties will comprise the assessment, monitoring, treatment and follow‑up of emergency patients under the supervision of the consultant. This will include Labour Ward cover.
The post holder will rotate to cover the planned leave commitments of the middle‑grade structure. In the event of unplanned emergency/sickness, the post holder may be requested to cover the duties of his/her colleagues.
The post holder may be required to undertake daytime clinical commitments on any site across the sites.
