A regional educational organization in Wales is seeking a Senior Clerical Officer to provide administrative support to the Principal, school staff, and Board of Governors. The successful candidate will oversee administrative processes, manage purchasing decisions, and ensure effective communication within the office. Applicants should possess relevant qualifications, including a minimum of 5 GCSEs, alongside demonstrated experience in clerical roles and managing staff. This full-time position offers a chance to significantly contribute to school operations and administration.
You must clearly demonstrate on your application form under each question how and to what extent you meet the required criteria as failure to do so may result in you not being shortlisted. You should clearly demonstrate this for both the essential and desirable criteria where relevant.

Shortlisting will be carried out on the basis of the essential criteria set out in Section 1 below using the information provided by you on your application form.
Please note that the Selection Panel reserves the right to shortlist only those applicants that it believes most strongly meet the criteria for the role.
In the event of an excessive number of applications the Selection Panel also reserves the right to apply any desirable criteria as outlined in Section 3 at shortlisting in which case these will be applied in the order listed. It is important therefore that you also clearly demonstrate on your application form how you meet any desirable criteria.

Have either (A) or (B) :(A) 5 GCSEs (Grades A C) including English Language and Mathematics or equivalent or higher level qualifications.
PLUS1 year experience in an administrative / clerical role in a busy office environment.
OR(B) A minimum of 3 years experience in an administrative / clerical role in a busy office environment.
PLUSHave a minimum of 6 months experience in the management and supervision of staff.
Demonstrable experience of purchasing and supplies administration.

Experience of operating schools-based computer applications / systems within a school setting (eg C2K SIMS).

The Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups (Northern Ireland) Order 2007 defines working directly with children or young people or in specified places as regulated activity.
In the event that you are recommended for appointed to a post that involves regulated activity the Education Authority will be required to undertake an Enhanced Disclosure of Criminal Background. Please note that you WILL be expected to meet the cost of an Enhanced Disclosure Certificate. Details of how to make payment will be sent to you at the pre‑employment stage.

POST TITLE : Senior Clerical Officer

RESPONSIBLE TO : The School Principal
RESPONSIBLE FOR : Maximum of five staff (see paragraph 1 below).
To provide administrative clerical and secretarial support to the Principal school staff and Board of Governors and assist with the organisation and management of the school office.
Note: This is a discretionary element of the job description. The grade may be awarded if supervision is not a component of the post.
