Job Title: Senior Civil and Structural Engineer

About the Role

NRL are looking for a Senior Civil and Structural Engineer to join our client's Projects team based in Knutsford, Cheshire. Reporting to the Lead Civil and Structural Engineer, this is a key role responsible for delivering high-quality engineering designs across a range of projects — with a focus on industrial and petrochemical sectors.

You’ll be hands-on with design development, calculations, and stakeholder engagement, while also mentoring junior engineers and ensuring quality and safety across deliverables. This is a fantastic opportunity to play a critical role in engineering the transition to a low-carbon, sustainable future.

Key Responsibilities
  • Produce detailed civil and structural designs and calculations.
  • Supervise the production of drawings and ensure quality checks are completed.
  • Review geotechnical data to inform design decisions.
  • Contribute to and lead design reviews.
  • Assess environmental impacts and project risks.
  • Analyse survey and materials data using modelling software.
  • Prepare design documentation in line with project schedules and internal standards.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Attend site surveys and support construction and commissioning when required.
  • Mentor and support junior engineers.
Required Experience & Qualifications
  • Degree in a relevant Civil or Structural Engineering discipline.
  • Chartered or working towards chartered status (e.g., ICE or IStructE).
  • Significant design experience, ideally in industrial or petrochemical environments.
  • Expert knowledge of Eurocodes for various material types.
  • Strong experience with analytical design tools such as Tekla Structural Designer (TSD) and TEDDS (experience with similar tools also considered).
  • Knowledge of safety-critical or regulated environments and related safety case requirements.
  • Understanding of Designer and Principal Designer roles under CDM Regulations.
  • Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and Office 365 (including SharePoint and OneDrive).
  • Must hold a full UK/EEC driving licence.
  • Must be eligible to live and work in the UK and capable of achieving SC clearance.
