Overview

Critical Care Outreach Team (Adult)

Band 7 Critical Care Outreach Sister/Charge Nurse/AHP

Full time/ Part time (30 hours) Secondment/Maternity cover post

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become part of the Band 7 team within the Adult Critical Care Outreach Team at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH). As one of the largest Trusts in the UK, the Critical Care Outreach Team provides a diverse and comprehensive CCOT service to all adult patients within NUH, including specialties such as Neurosurgery, Haematology, Major Trauma, Renal and Infectious diseases.

The CCOT at NUH is a highly regarded team providing a Trust-wide resource across all adult patient areas on the City and Queens Medical Centre campuses, covering more than 80 wards and clinical areas. The team is multi-professional, consisting of Band 7 and 6 nurses, specialised physiotherapists and CCOT assistants.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the clinical service as a Band 7, providing ward-based advanced clinical assessments, patient interventions and developing management plans with the goal to halt or reverse clinical deterioration.
  • Help shape and develop the service by taking on managerial and leadership responsibilities to ensure the service evolves to meet patient and service-user needs.
  • Demonstrate advanced clinical assessment skills and knowledge of common clinical situations across the trust's specialties, including management of hypoxia with nasal high flow oxygen therapy, non-invasive ventilation, tracheostomy care and weaning, sepsis management and transfer of the critically unwell patient.
  • Prioritise the team workload as shift co-ordinator; provide formal and informal teaching to staff at all levels; coordinate rosters and sickness management; contribute to ongoing development of the service and team members using staff development plans and appraisals.
Qualifications and requirements
  • Previous Critical Care Outreach experience.
  • Degree and critical care course (or equivalent).
  • Ability to work across both City and Queens campuses and provide flexible, 24/7 service (long days and nights as required).
  • Strong leadership, organisational and communication skills; ability to manage resources and develop staff.

The Critical Care Outreach service provides an extensive 24/7, 365-day service across both City and Queens campuses. Applicants may be required to work across both campuses to provide a flexible service to critically ill/ deteriorating ward patients throughout NUH.
