Neway International are seeking a Senior Business Operations Assistant to join our client based with Somerset Council.

Location: 1 Orchard Court, Glastonbury, Somerset, BA6 9JB
Hours: 37 hours per week (7.5 hours per day)
Start Date: 05 January 2026
End Date: 31 March 2026 (60‑day assignment initially)
Employment Type: Temporary
Work Pattern: Hybrid – 2 days remote, 3 days office-based
Rate: PAYE £13.05 per hour / Umbrella £17.24 per hour
IR35 Status: Inside

The Children’s Commissioning team provides essential operational and administrative support to frontline services, enabling practitioners to focus on delivering high‑quality care. The Role

The Senior Business Operations Assistant will provide administrative support to the Youth Justice Team (YJT) and the Family Intervention Service (FIS). This is a fast‑paced, reactive role requiring strong organisational skills, accuracy and the ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. You will be warmly welcomed into a kind and supportive team and will receive full training.

Key tasks include
  • Monitoring shared mailboxes and signposting, responding to or actioning requests.
  • Handling Duty phone calls, taking messages, signposting callers and arranging volunteers to support young people in custody.
  • Arranging venues and volunteers for panels.
  • Providing administrative support to interview processes.
  • Monitoring and updating spreadsheets.
  • Uploading documents and information onto children’s electronic records.
  • Organising and taking notes for various meetings.
  • Providing basic ICT and systems support to practitioners.
  • Collating information for managers and quality assurance activities.
Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver timely and accurate administrative support across YJT and FIS.
  • Maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information appropriately.
  • Support colleagues with ICT queries and system navigation.
  • Coordinate meetings, venues, volunteers and documentation.
  • Ensure accurate data entry and record‑keeping.
  • Assist with recruitment and interview administration.
  • Respond to enquiries via phone and email in a professional, supportive manner.
Candidate Requirements
  • Educated to GCSE level (including English and Maths) or NVQ Level 2 equivalent.
  • Experience in an administrative role is desirable but not essential.
  • Confident using Microsoft Office applications.
  • Minute‑taking experience is desirable.
  • Warm, friendly and non‑judgemental communication style.
  • Ability to remain calm and kind in challenging situations.
  • Strong organisational skills and the ability to work independently.
  • Willingness to learn and contribute positively to the team.
  • Passion for supporting services that improve the lives of vulnerable children and young people.
