Part-Time Senior Accountant

We’re hiring a Part-Time Senior Accountant to join our growing team at S. Smith & Co Accountants, one of Scunthorpe’s leading independent accountancy firms. This role offers the opportunity to work autonomously, manage your own portfolio, and support the development of junior team members, all while enjoying a healthy work-life balance.

Location: 4 Ashby Road, Scunthorpe, DN16 1NR

Salary: £28,500 - £38,500 (Pro-Rata)

Position: Part Time, Flexible hours (16 hours per week)

About the role

As a Senior Accountant, you’ll take ownership of a diverse portfolio of SME and limited company clients, delivering high quality accountancy services and first-class customer support. Reporting to a Manager or Director, you’ll lead on client account management while supporting and reviewing the work of junior team members, combining responsibility with a high degree of autonomy in your role.

Specific responsibilities you will undertake are as follows but not limited to:

  • Assisting with the responsibility for organising, planning and monitoring the workload of the team.
  • Reviewing accounts prepared by junior members of the team
  • Assist in the accountancy training of junior team members.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with new and existing clients.
  • Day to day servicing of a portfolio of SME businesses and their owners
  • Accounts Preparation
  • Production of monthly management accounts
  • Personal Tax and Business Tax computations
  • Calculation and filing of client VAT returns
  • Contribute to ad-hoc projects and provide support to senior leadership
  • Providing the client with efficient and effective client service at all times.
  • Providing assistance to clients with cloud accounting
  • Working with cloud-based software and assisting clients with the migration to cloud accounting.
Candidate Attributes

You will ideally have worked in practice for at least two years, will be professional in your approach and have the following skills and qualifications:

  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to convey complex information

  • Team player and fully able to work on own initiative
  • Personal and business tax knowledge is expected
  • Excellent knowledge of Xero Accounting
  • At least two years experience within a practice environment.

  • Good technical knowledge
