Qualifications

Milk Education are working with a welcoming primary school in Ponteland who are seeking a compassionate and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join their team. This long-term role involves supporting pupils with a range of additional needs, both within the classroom and through targeted small-group or 1:1 support.

This position is ideal for someone with a passion for making a meaningful impact on the learning and wellbeing of children with SEND.

What We're Looking For

You do not need a formal TA qualification, but you must have:

  • Recent experience (within the last 5 years) working with children, ideally including some SEN exposure
  • A patient, calm, and nurturing approach
  • Good communication and relationship‑building skills
  • Confidence working with children who may have:
  • Autism / communication needs
  • Speech & language delays
  • Social, emotional, or behavioural needs
  • Mild to moderate learning difficulties
  • A flexible and positive attitude
  • Willingness to follow SEN strategies under the guidance of the class teacher and SENCO

Your Responsibilities May Include:

  • Providing 1:1 support for a pupil with additional needs
  • Running small‑group interventions
  • Adapting learning activities to suit individual needs
  • Supporting communication, social skills, and emotional regulation
  • Encouraging positive behaviour and engagement in lessons
  • Working closely with teachers, the SENCO, and other support staff
  • Helping create a safe, inclusive, and encouraging learning environment
