Job description

1:1 SEND Support | Year 1 pupil with non-verbal autism | Dudley primary school

Looking for a role where the little moments mean everything? We’ve got just the thing.

This Dudley primary school is looking for someone calm, caring, and quietly confident to support a lovely Year 1 child with non-verbal autism. It’s about building trust, encouraging independence, and helping school feel like a place where they belong.

What your day looks like:
  • One-to-one support – Be their steady person in a busy classroom

  • Personal care – Support with dignity and kindness when needed

  • Communication support – Use PECS, Makaton or your own toolkit to help them express themselves

  • Small wins, big impact – Celebrate every step forward, no matter how small

  • Teamwork that works – Work hand-in-hand with the teacher, SENCO, and parents to build a plan that really supports

You’ll be a brilliant fit if you:
  • Have experience supporting children with autism

  • Are happy to assist with personal care (respectfully and sensitively)

  • Know your way around non-verbal communication

  • Stay patient, kind, and curious—even on the tricky days

  • Believe every child deserves to feel safe, seen, and supported at school

Why you’ll love this school:
  • Warm and welcoming – A child-first ethos with heart

  • Supportive team – You won’t be doing this alone

  • Purpose with a capital P – Every day, you’ll be part of something meaningful
